Mitsubishi Scaling Back China Handset Business

Mitsubishi has planned to stop its handset R&D and production activities in China by closing three of Mitsubishi Soyea Mobile Communication Equipment's bases by late March, a joint venture between Mitsubishi and its Chinese partners. Approximately 200 employees may be laid off. However, Mitsubishi expects to remain a shareholder in Mitsubishi Soyea for future operations, which it now owns 36% stake.
